In this 6-week class our intention was to explore the step-by-step growth and blossoming of a lotus flower, as symbolic of the Self. In each class we would try a new sacred geometry design. On day- one we would make a mandala representing one, or the beginning, the point of energy where all begins. The mandala on day-two would represent the seed, or two-ness, and so on for the 6 classes. These are some of the mandalas.
I always start with a demonstration of 4 watercolor washes and ask students to make a creative color wheel in which to practice the washes. (Above.)
One: The Point Where All Begins and Returns, The Void
Two: The Seed, The Vesica Piscis, The Mandorla
Three: The Triangle, The Pyramid
Four:
The Square, The 4 Elements
Five: The Pentagon, The Star
Six: The Hexagon, The Center of The Flower of Life
Practicing the Six
The Final Class
We created a flower nature mandala,
exchanged mini-circles with each other (also known as “seeds,” and “Circles of Love,”)
blessed and appreciated our work
and gathered up our “impermanent” mandala.
Class was complete.
